The top of my foot has been hurting for the last 7 weeks (noticed it about a week after finishing the NYC marathon). X-ray was negative and the bone scan just came back negative too so I assume it's some kind of tissue damage (I did notice the tongue of that shoe was pushed way down inside the shoe when I took the chip off after the marathon). Anyone have any ideas what it could be and what the recovery is for something like this. Can I run through it? I really haven't run for the last 7 weeks but for a mile or two once a week just to see if the pain was gone. Oh, I've been running for 12 years (30-40 mpw winter; 50-60 mpw summer) and this is my first injury/layoff. As I'm sure you can imagine, it's pretty upsetting. IP: Logged |

There are quite a few bones down there and, as a result, quite a bit of connective tissue. It could be tendonitis (I've seen that spelled tendenitis as well, anybody know what's correct?), which, as I understand it, is a generic label for inflamed tendons. Does this respond to ice&advil? Have you tried changing your not-running shoes? Another stunt I tried with a similar (but possibly different) pain was to re-lace my shoes, not using the standard X, which creates pressure points on the top of your foot, but with more of a parallel system - I can't find the website where I learned it, right now, but it totally changes how tight your shoes feel. Made a big difference for me. IP: Logged |
