I am wondering if anyone else has problems with jeans being too loose around the waist and way too tight in the thighs. As a runner, my thighs are more muscular and larger than the normal person and I can never find jeans that fit me right. I am constantly buying new jeans, I just bought two pairs from the Gap and hoped they would some how stretch and shrink in the right places, but had no such luck. Does anyone have any recommendations for brands that fit athletes? IP: Logged |

ugg how lucky! i'm naturally not "itty bitty model waisted" no matter how much i work out. However, I used to be smaller (in the waist in the past) and I still have a favorite type of jeans that fit then and now. Have you tried boot cut jeans? They are a little more flared in the leg. LEI makes some, but they are low riding and high crotched. does that make any sense? Try boot cut though. I think they are the best. IP: Logged |

Can jeans really be too tight? I'm just kidding. This day in age, are there not jeans that are made of some funky materials which are quite a bit more stretchy than classic jeans? Also, you could get jeans that ride lower on your waist to sort of circumvent your current poblem. I have a question; how do you all feel about the newish trend of having jeans white washed in select places? IP: Logged |

I have the exact same problem! My waist isn't that small but whenever a pair of jeans fits my waist and butt, they're always so tight on my thighs. The thinner stretch-material jeans fit better because they stretch but they still fit like spandex on the thighs then. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the help, now I am thinking I should collaberate with Nike to come out with a line of sport-specific jeans. Maybe a line of basketball jeans that are extra long, runner jeans with extra roomy thighs, etc. Here are a few random responses: I do not have a "itty bitty model waist," my thighs are just disproportionally large. I dont like low-rise jeans b/c I have a Marla Runyan-ish torso and thus find them very unflattering. I think those stir-up stretchy jeans were in style in the early 90's but I like to stick to classic denim. Like the stir up jeans, I hope that jeans with patches of severe fading and jeans that look like they havent been washed in six years are a short lived trend. I would like to call myself a Levis girl...but none of them fit! IP: Logged |

This is the way we did it in the "Rock 'n Roll" days. Buy non-pre-shrunk jeans. Get them soaking wet. Put them on wet, and let them dry on your body. They will fit perfectly. Mad Dog Mike www.training2run.com IP: Logged |

If you're 5'3" or shorter, try shopping for pants at a kids store like Gap Kids. I did that for years -- I've worn boys jeans (husky sized when I wanted them baggier) and girls' size 14's and 16's. Plus, they're usually cheaper than shopping in the "grown up" stores. I now buy J. Crew "hipster flair" (?? I think that's the style) jeans and get them tailored. More expensive, but they're very comfortable... IP: Logged |

x-trainer, what do u mean by a marla runyan-ish torso? IP: Logged |

I mean that Marla Runyan has a long torso. Typically runners have long legs and she has always stood out to me as having a long torso. Maybe I am just overly aware of it b/c I also have a long mid-section and shorter legs even though I am tall. Nothing bad, just an observation and comparison I was making. To relate to this thread topic, that is why I dont like low-rise jeans, they really exaggerate the whole long torso thing. IP: Logged |

I have the small waist, big thigh thing going on, too. I've had good luck with Express jeans, but I always have to try on a few pairs of my usual size, and the next size up or down, too, in order to find the best fit. IP: Logged |

I have long legs and Mudd Jeans used to fit me fine until they changed the way they made them about 3 years ago and now I hate them. Another problem with me buying clothes is that I am quite possibly the cheapest person alive and refuse to pay more than $20 for a pair of pants and $8 for a shirt. Therefore, I shop the sale rack at Gap and I found what is becoming my favorite pair of jeans there for the magic number, $20.

Jackie K, regarding the laptop problem, it could be any number of things. My on/off button on my laptop has a switch beneath it to prevent it from accidentally getting turned on. Sometimes the switch gets bumped over to the locked position and I press the button to turn it on and nothing happens. It's a longshot but you might want to check for that. It could also be a problem with the battery, or something else which wouldn't be as easy. And to relate this to the thread, I find that the best places to shop for jeans are the ones that sell them in a variety of lengths and cuts. My current favorite pair is from J. Crew. IP: Logged |

I like Silver Jeans, but they are sort of hard to find. Sometimes Bloomingdales or Nordstrom has them. I have a pair that is so worn out that it has holes, but I keep wearing them because it is so comfy! I am also a big fan of buying jeans that are a little big in the waist and wearing a belt, since I also have the waist/thighs (I prefer to refer to them as QUADS)issue. IP: Logged |

I have the exact same issue with clothing. All the waists are too big on the pants, so it looks terrible on me. I am not overweight, actually pretty thin, but my thighs are muscular- so regular pants always feel too snug in the upper leg area. I thought I had some kind of weight problem but I guess after 11 years of distance running it will affect your build. IP: Logged |

quote: I found your posting on this message board yesterday while trying to find jeans on line that may fit my larger thighs and my smaller waist. Even though it has been a while since your posting, I thought you may appreciate this...I found 2 pairs of jeans yesterday. They actually fit pretty good (no adjustments needed) I was shocked. Here they are: Good luck, GnaTT IP: Logged |

I really like the Levi's they sell at Target. I like the junior lowrise bootcut. They also sell a misses line (even #'d sizes). Because they're low, they fit your hip more than your waist and they have a little stretch in them so they fit your thighs. I'm also cheap--they're only $20! How much are these Seven jeans? I've heard of them but not seen them anywhere. IP: Logged |

Your problem is that your shopping at the Gap. They design clothes for tall skinny high school girls. Your only solution is to loosen the purse strings and buy a pair of Seven jeans. If you're constantly buying $40 jeans, why not just buy one pair of $140 jeans and get it over with? I would rather have one pair of $140 Seven jeans than 4 pairs of $40 Gap jeans. IP: Logged |
