Power Yoga

Power Yoga is an exciting and unique practice based on an ancient form of yoga called astanga. Beryl and Thom Birch are the originators of Power Yoga and are some of the first American practitioners and teachers of this methodology. If you have been thinking about trying a yoga class, there isn't a better or safer place to start!

Power Yoga is a mind/body workout that will travel with you wherever you go. Once learned and mindfully practiced, it can help you to 1) feel younger and stronger, 2) be less stiff and tight and more limber and agile, and 3) heal and prevent sport injury and stress related "dis-ease." The wonderful added benefit of this yoga practice is that it will also help you to 1) relax and relieve tension, 2) concentrate better, and 3) to more effectively focus your energies!

Classes are 60 minutes, except the Wednesday Intermediate class, which is 90 minutes. Wear running shorts, bike shorts, or tights; baggy sweats not recommended except to put on over workout wear at the end of class. Yoga is done with bare feet. Beginner course is a prerequisite for Intermediate class. There are no make-ups after the semester ends. For further information, or personal one-on-one training, please call 212-661-2895. The book Power Yoga is required reading for this course. All NYRRC books can be purchased in our online Book Store. Intermediate students who already have Power Yoga will want to purchase Beryl's new book, entitled Beyond Power Yoga.

You can register for classes or order books and/or tapes by mail, by fax, or in person at The Running Gallery at the NYRRC. Mail your application form with payment to Power Yoga, NYRRC, 9 East 89th Street, New York, NY 10128 or fax them to 212-369-4704.
